Scope: Purpose: The document is intended as a supplement to AS50881. It is not intended as an all encompassing document covering all of the details for optical cable plant installation. Instead, it outlines recommended best practices for the design of the installation of an optical cable plant. Application: This specification provides supplemental design guidance to AS50881 for optical cable plant installation in aerospace vehicles. The recommended practices described in this document are based on experience with the installation of optical cable plants in military and commercial aircraft in both the US and Europe. This document puts forth a philosophy for the installation of optical cable plants that considerations the strengths and weaknesses of fiber while at the same time taking into account the safety of the personnel, safety of the vehicle, satisfactory performance and reliability of the vehicle, ease of maintenance, and service life, all at the least cost to the operator.
